About Wanneroo Martial Arts

A family-friendly dojo in Mariginiup, founded in 2015 by Peter Hunt, 6th Dan Kyoshi.

Peter Hunt – Head Instructor

Peter Hunt is a 6th Dan Kyoshi in Karate and the Vice President of the Australasian Martial Arts Hall of Fame. He was inducted as Martial Artist of the Year in 2020 by both the AMAHOF and the World Kung Fu Union Hall of Fame.

Peter began his martial arts journey in 1981 with Boxing at the Merlin Youth Centre in Derby. He moved to Perth in 1994 and commenced training in Zen Do Kai Karate and BJC Muay Thai, attaining his Shodan in Zen Do Kai in 2001.

His ranks include:

  • 6th Dan Karate – Kyoshi
  • 4th Degree Muay Thai – World Kickboxing Association
  • Iaido Sandan – Budokan Academy AKR Zen Ken Ren
  • Shodan Kenjutsu
  • 4th Kyu Bojutsu

Peter opened his first dojo at Ellenbrook (now Arachnid Martial Arts Academy) before establishing Wanneroo Martial Arts in November 2015. He teaches Goju-Ryu Karate, Muay Thai, and Japanese Sword at the Mariginiup dojo.

The Dojo

Wanneroo Martial Arts is situated in Mariginiup, adjacent to Banksia Grove and convenient to Tapping, Ashby, Carramar, Wanneroo, Pearsall, Sinagra, Hocking, Jandabup, Joondalup, and Neerabup.

The dojo is well equipped with:

  • Fall mats
  • Full-size boxing ring
  • Heavy bags and focus mitts
  • Kick shields and Thai pads

We believe martial arts training extends well beyond physical technique. Our aim is to equip students with self-defence skills, increased fitness, and life skills that carry into the classroom, the home, and adulthood.
